THE ENTHRONEMENT of the SACRED HEART OF JESUS

THE ENTHRONEMENT

of the

SACRED HEART

OF JESUS

If a Mass will be celebrated, it is recommended that a votive Mass of the Sacred Heart be used unless there is another overriding Liturgical celebration.

♥OPENING

PRIEST/LAY PROMOTER:

This is one of the most important gatherings of our lives since the Enthronement brings countless blessings.  By the Enthronement we proclaim Jesus as King who rules over us through love….but He is more like a Father than a ruler.  He becomes our generous Provider, our Friend, our Counselor, our spiritual Physician, our constant Companion, the unseen Guest at every meal.

We certainly want Him to be all these things because each and every one of us needs His help.  It is not easy to be good and do good.  We can’t do it alone, but with Jesus’ help, we can.

Select a MEMBER (of the family/organization) to read an appropriate Scripture passage such as Deuteronomy 7:6-11.  Reflect on this Reading and share with each other what was said to your individual hearts.

PRIEST/LAY PROMOTER:

Jesus is your Lord and He rules through His Heart!  He desires to be enthroned as King and Lord of your hearts and of your (family/organization) as your brother and friend.  He longs to share your everyday life, your joys as well as your sorrows.

Scripture says, “My people, whom I love so dearly, behold I stand at the door and knock:  if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and eat with him and he with Me.”  (Rv 3:20)

Jesus is your savior and your Liberator.  He wants to save you and your (family/organization) from the evil forces working to destroy it, to liberate you from the slavery of sin and the shackles of fear, depression and worry.

Jesus is ready to release in your (home/organization) the power of His Spirit.  He is the Healer, the Consoler, the Sanctifier, and the Teacher.  But He will not force His way into your heart or your (home/organization).  He wants to be invited.  He is waiting to hear you say to Him:

FAMILY/ORGANIZATION:

Come Lord Jesus!  Stay with us, we need You!  Be the Lord, the Brother, the Friend of our

(family/organization)!  Send us Your Holy Spirit and give us new hearts, a new spirit!  Say to us as you did to John:  Surely I am coming soon.  (Rv 22:20)

PRIEST/LAY PROMOTER:

Yes the Father loves you, Jesus loves you, the Holy Spirit loves you.  What have you to fear?  His Wounded Heart is the sign and pledge of His merciful love.  His heart is open to receive you!

BLESSING OF IMAGE

♥PROCESSION AND ENTHRONEMENT

The LEADER (of household/organization) takes the Sacred Heart image into his/her hands in preparation for the procession to the place of honor.  Another MEMBER (of household/organization) carries the Bible.  MEMBERS (of family/organization) with candles slowly lead the procession to where the image will be placed.  Any hymn that proclaims Jesus as Lord or King may be sung.  One such song is:  “To Jesus Christ our Sovereign King”

Arriving at the throne, the MEMBERS (of family/organization) gather in a semicircle.  Before enthroning the Sacred Heart the LEADER (of household/organization) says while placing the image of the Sacred Heart in the selected place:

“I now enthrone Jesus as King, Lord, and Friend of our (family/organization).”

Another MEMBER (of household/organization) places the Bible near the Sacred Heart image and says:

“We are nourished by the Body and Blood of Christ and the Word of God.”

FAMILY/ORGANIZATION:

Jesus, we love You, we praise You!  We accept Your loving rule over our hearts

and our (family/organization).

MEMBERS (of family/organization) place the candles on either side of the image.

ALL:  “God is enthroned as King forever!” (Ps 29)  “All that the Lord has said we will

heed and do.”  (Ex 24:7)

PRIEST/LAY PROMOTER:  As an act of loving faith in all of Jesus’ teachings (manifestations of

His love), and as an act of atonement for those who reject them or do not practice them, let us say the Apostles’ Creed.

ALL:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified died and was buried.  He descended into hell; the third day he arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy CatholicChurch, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.  Amen.

Kneeling or standing facing the image of the Sacred Heart, the FAMILY/ORGANIZATION now makes their covenant with the Heart of Jesus, Our King, Lord and Friend:

FAMILY/ORGANIZATION:

Jesus, we enthrone You as King and proclaim You as Lord and Friend of our (family/organization).  Yes Lord, we do want You to rule over our hearts and wills through Your loving Heart.  Share our everyday life; our joys and sorrows.  Be our well beloved Brother, our intimate Friend!

Come, Lord Jesus, come!  Our hearts and (home/organization) are open to You.  Stay with us, we need You.  Release in our (home/organization) the power of Your Spirit, the Healer, the Consoler.  Save our (family/organization) from the evil forces seeking to destroy us.

Our Father in heaven take away our stony hearts and give us new hearts; unselfish, generous and pure hearts filled with love for You!  Heal our hurts, bind up our wounds, unite us in love.  May our love go beyond our (family/organization) and inspire us to love those in need as Jesus loves us.

Lord Jesus, to Your loving, glorified Heart, Your wounded Heart, we dedicate, we consecrate our weak, our selfish hearts.  We humbly acknowledge that without You we can do nothing, but with Your help and Your grace we can do all things:  even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we fear no evil, for You are with us, Your rod and Your staff, they comfort us.

Mary, Mother of the Churchand our Mother, help us to make our (family/organization) a true reflection of Your Church, that is, a community of love, a worshiping, praying (family/organization).

GoodSt. Joseph, head of the Holy Family, watch over us as you watched over Jesus and Mary atNazareth.  Obtain for each of us that same loving trust in Divine Providence that sustained you in all your trials.

May the Lord bless us and keep us!  May His face shine upon us and be gracious to us!  May He look upon this (family/organization) with kindness and give us peace!  And may Almighty God bless us, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

Praise the Lord, now and forever.  Amen.
