Msgr. Esseff enters, with the Sisters, the 4th day of the retreat which focuses on God’s great love for us and He wanted to us to participate in our own salvation by giving us His life through sanctifying grace in baptism. We participate in the ministry of Christ in the world today. We are one with Him. After appreciate who He has united Himself with us, we now look at the ways we separate ourselves from Christ….which we do in our sinfulness. What is that particular tendency, characteristic, attitude that separates us from Jesus Christ? We are unique in the heart of God, and so is our suffering, especially in areas that cause us to sin. The great tragedy that could occur is that we do not become saints. The Holy Spirit is the great revealer who brings to our awareness more than just the sin that we commit, He reveals to us why we behave in this manner. We need to meet Jesus with eyes of our soul. Do you really know the living Jesus? Ask for this grace. Until you can experience this, you will not be able to see in Him in the poor. Our soul needs to experience that love more than we need the air to breath. Otherwise prayer is dead and meditation only thinking. Msgr. Esseff shares a very poignant experience he had in a famine area with a small baby and a Missionary of Charity sister.
